Prices are guides
- We show each practice’s own published prices, checked weekly. They are typical prices for a standard, straightforward case, as the CMA’s standard price list requires.
- Your pet’s actual cost depends on its size, health and the treatment needed, and prices can change between our checks. Always confirm the price with the practice, and ask for a written estimate for anything major.
- Online medicine prices are taken from the pharmacies’ own websites weekly and may have changed. Check the final price, including delivery, before you buy.
- Yearly costs and health plan comparisons are estimates we work out from the practice’s published prices for the things you choose. They don’t include extra treatment your pet may need. Health plans differ in what they include, and most need a 12-month commitment, so read the practice’s plan terms before you sign up.
- Map pins show approximate locations. Check the address before you travel.
Not veterinary advice
Our guides, checklists and calculators are general information, not veterinary advice. If your pet is ill or injured, contact a vet straight away; out of hours, call your practice’s emergency number.
Clinics labelled Emergency clinic or Referral only are listed for information. You can’t register with them as your everyday vet, and referral clinics usually see pets only when your own vet refers them.
How we list and rank
No vet, group or pharmacy pays to be listed, ranked or highlighted, and we don’t earn commission. How we order results, including by yearly cost, is explained on our How we rank page. Our price publishing tracker counts the price lists we have found; a practice may have published prices somewhere we haven’t found yet. Ratings, addresses, phone numbers and opening hours come live from Google Maps and are Google’s.
For practices: corrections and removal
- If something about your practice is wrong, tell us at [contact email – set “contact_email” in data/meta.json] or through our register a practice form. We check corrections against your own published information and aim to reply within 5 working days.
- We list every practice we know of, because pet owners benefit from seeing all their options, and practices are required to publish standard prices. If you have a specific concern about your listing, contact us and we’ll consider it.
- We read your published price list politely: normally once a week, following your website’s robots.txt, pausing between pages and identifying ourselves as VetRateBot. We use an AI system to read the prices from the page, and check unusual changes by hand before publishing them.
Using our content
You’re welcome to share links to Vet Rate and quote small parts of our guides with a link back. Please don’t copy our price data in bulk or present it as your own without asking us first.
Our responsibility
We take care to keep information accurate, but we can’t guarantee it’s complete, correct or up to date, and we’re not responsible for what practices or pharmacies charge or do. We’re not liable for losses from relying on the site, except where the law doesn’t allow us to exclude liability. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
