The best vet isn’t always the cheapest. It’s the one that’s close by, easy to get into, trusted by people you know and fair on price. Here’s what pet owners told the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) when it investigated UK vet services.
Close to home
The most common reason people pick a vet. Check-ups, follow-ups and emergencies are all easier when it’s nearby.
Recommended by people you trust
Ask friends and neighbours, and read recent reviews, especially about how the team handles nervous pets.
You can actually get seen
Check opening hours, how quickly you can get an appointment, and who covers nights and weekends.
Price: compare what you’ll use
A cheap consultation can come with pricier vaccinations or neutering. Compare the services your pet will need over a year, not just the first visit: choose “Yearly cost” under More options.
Know who owns it
Independent and group-owned vets can both give excellent care. Fewer than half of people at group practices know who owns theirs, so we show it for every vet.
